Later Kushanas, Ancient Punjab (5th Century AD), Highly Debased Gold Unit, 7.09g, 20.52x20.69mm, Obv: Crude standing human figure with a crescent like device, Rev. A Quadruped with in distinct legend around. Pieper # 1939, very fine, very rare. Note: These coins are made of a very debased gold alloy, They were first published by Whitehead in 1911 with a reported find spot in Ambala district of the Punjab, Mitchiner (1978: 475) regards them as Kidarite derivatives.They appear to have been struck by local Punjab rulers of the 5th century CE. Very Fine, Scarce. |
