Kushanas, Kanishka I (130-158 AD), Copper Unit, 16.15g, with the Buddha’s image, Obv: King standing to left and offering sacrifice at a fire-altar, Lord Buddha standing, wearing a monk’s robes and making a gesture of reassurance, Rev: Traces of legend in the right field. The depiction of the Buddha on these copper coins is one of the earliest anthropomorphic representations of him. Here he is shown as a 'Monk of the Shakya clan’, or Shakyamuni.
