Assam, Octagonal Silver Rupee, 10.66g, Rudra Simha (1696-1714), Sk. 1629, Assamese legends in four lines on both sides within usual border, Obv: Sri Sri Ha/ra Gauri Pa/dambuja Madhu/karasya, Rev: Sri Srimat/ Svarga Deva Rudra/ Simhasya Sa/ ke 1629, lion with tail down below, running to right. Reverse die perfectly struck at 6 o'clock. Rare date, Ex Nicholas Rhodes Collection. (A.Mitra. 43, RB. F17.1 altered date type). Very Fine, Very Rare.
Coins of year 1628 and 1629 are particularly rare and must have been struck in very small quantities. RB offer some possible explanation for this, which may have been to do with the military expedition against Kachar that took place at this time.
