During 1817-1818, the new gold coinage introduced under this reform was chiefly intended for public convinience in large payment. It consisted of three denominations gold rupee, half and quarter. The new exchange rate of the rupee (MUHR) was laid down at 15 silver rupees. Desin of all three coins was identical to the three similar denomination of the silver rupee, half and quarter. According to Madras Mint record, gold coins of this issue was only struck during this period.
