Ancient die-struck Lead, 12.65g, Northern Maharashtra/Khandesh (Tapi, Narmada Valley), Post-Mauryan period, (200-150 BC), Obv: Symbolic configuration, plough-standard above a three-arched hill, traces of brahmi legend …Vasu(bha?)dayam above, tree-in-railing, wheel standard, Rev: 'Ujjain' symbol within an open cross in a dotted rectangle, a highly unusual and significant coin from the post-Mauryan inscribed series of local coins from the Northern Deccan. The legend evidently ends in the feminine sixth case ending, suggesting that the name mentioned is the name either of a river, or of a city, or a goddess. The symbol on reverse is typically seen on coins from Prakashe, an early settlement site on the banks of Tapi River in Northeast Maharashtra. Unpublished. Very Fine+. Extremely Rare.
