Copper
Ancient Malwa, Ujjain/Mandasor Region, Copper, 6.87g, Post-Mauryan inscribed die-struck Jinhumita (Jishnumitra), (250-200 BC), Obv: Stylistically executed human figure, standing facing holding a staff and a water-pot, traces of a river symbol below, Brahmi legend (Ra)ño Jeenhumitasa above. (The earliest of inscribed indigenous coin-types were produced in Malwa by local post-Mauryan monarchies. Jinhumita was probably one such ruler in the Ujjain/Mandasor region. The palaeography of the letters suggests a period not far removed from Mauryan/Asokan inscriptions). Unlisted in Pieper. Very Fine+, Very Rare.
