Govind Ballal Kher who was historically also known as “Govind Pant Bundela” was a military general of Peshwas in Northern India, also Founder of city 'Sagar' in Central India. During 1733-1761 AD. while the 3rd Battle of Panipat in the year 1761 AD was been fought between the Afghan invader Ahmed Shah Abdali and the Marathas (under the supremacy of Sadashiv Rao Bhau Peshwa of Pune), Bhau provoked Govind to attack Abdali from rear (using gorila Tactics). He had trapped Ahmed Shah Abdali in the region between Ganges and Yamuna (termed as Duab) and had made him totally helpless. But when he got the opportunity he delivered a considerable amount at Delhi to Naro Shankar and started attacking the supplies of Ahmad Shah Abdali. It would have had the double effect of harassing Abdali. The attack by Govind Pantwas a history of bravery, although rather futile. At the beginning of the battle the Marathas pushed back the Rohillas who were on the Afghan side, but towards the end of the battle, the tide turned against the Marathas and by the end unfortunately however, a sheer misunderstanding led him to lose his life in an unexpected tussle with the troops under Abdali’s General Ataikhan. The brave Bundela died fighting against a more powerful enemy. During the decline of the Mughal power, Etawa was the base of Govind Ballal at that time and after he was martyred in the war, coins were struck INO Shah Alam II by replacing the "Trishul" with "Sword" and some other mint marks on the coins.
