Post-Mauryan Tribal Republics, Yaudheyas or Kunindas, Copper coin struck in the name of 'Chitreshwara' as tutelary deity of the clan (c.50 BC-50 AD), PAIC 1643, 8.51g, 22.75x23.33mm, Obv: Three-headed Shiva seated frontally on an Asana, holding a staff, with a kneeling figure at his feet(partially visible), Rev: Deer facing right, (altar above its back and Damaru under the belly). About Very Fine, Rare.
The attribution of this type is contested - A M Shastri regards it to be a Kuninda issue but Devdendra Handa suggests a Yaudheya attribution. Pieper in his catalogue follows Handa and attributes them to the Yaudheyas. Coins of this type are very rare and known from a single hoard, which appeared in the early 1980s. Shastri identifies the kneeling figure as the Apasmara-purusha motif associated with Shiva's iconography.
