In Numismatics, 'MULE' coins have held a particular fascination for collectors because they were minted from unusual pairings of obverse and reverse dies. In 1841, 2 Annas continuous legend obverse dies were used by the Calcutta mint in conjuction with the 16 berries reverse dies which had a dot after the date. Thereafter, when the Calcutta mint switched to the divided legend obverse dies, they were paired with the 9 berries reverse dies which did not have a dot after the date. However, in some rare instances, the divided legend obverse dies were coupled with the 16 berries reverse dies earlier used only in conjuction with the Continuous Legend coins.
