Hindu Shahi rulers of Oahind dynasty, Shri Samantadeva, 8-10 Cen AD, Silver Jital, 3.18g, 18.62x18.98 mm, Obv: Horseman to right with spear in hand. Dotted border around, Rev: Seated decorated bull to left, Legend on its back reading in Sarada script as “ShriSaMaNtaDeVa”. Dotted border around. Scarce in this grade . These ‘Bull and Horseman’ jitals had good silver content, hence they became popular currency in NorthWest India and circulated till the end of the Delhi Mamaluk Sultanate. Very Fine, Scarce. |
