| Vijayanagara kingdom, possibly issued by Venkata II, 1586-1614 AD, Gold Pratapa (Half Varaha), 1.69g, 7.70x7.41 mm, Obv: Lord Venkateshwara(Balaji) standing in an arch(Prabhavali), Rev: Nagari legend in three lines reading “ShriVen/KaTe/ShwaRa”. Ref: Studies in Vijayanagar Coins K Ganesh #224 pg 96. Usually known as Venkatapati half pagoda, this coin type is believed to have been issued by Aravidu dynasty rulers. Mostly associated to Venkata II as the motif on obverse is of Lord Venkateshwara. Very Fine, Rare. |
