Vijayanagara kingdom, possibly issued by Venkata II, 1586-1614 AD, Gold Varaha, 3.40g, 9.97x10.25mm, Obv: Lord Venkateshwara(Balaji) standing in an arch(Prabhavali), Rev: Usually legend is ShriVenKa/TeShwaRa/YaNaMah. But a thick blob on this specimen. Ref: Studies in Vijayanagar Coins K Ganesh #225 pg 96. Usually known as Venkatapati pagoda, this coin type is believed to have been issued by Aravidu dynasty rulers. Mostly associated to Venkata II as the motif on obverse is of Lord Venkateshwara. Very Fine, Rare. |
