Satavahanas, Universal type, (100-300 AD), Potin Unit, 2.45 g, Obv: Elephant to left with trunk raised, Traces of Brahmi legend on its back, Rev: Four orbed Ujjain symbol with dots in each orb. Very Fine, Extremely Rare. The Satavahana universal type potin units were issued from the period of Gotamiputra Siri Satakarani till the fag end of the dynasty. These issues typically show on the obverse, an elephant facing right with a raised trunk and Brahmi legend on its back. However this is an extremely rare specimen where the Elephant is facing left instead of the usual right. A great addition to any Satavahana collection. |
