Medieval Eastern Bengal, Harikela series, (10-11 Cen AD), Silver bracteate unit, 5.90g, Obv: Bull to right, Legend above reading ‘Harikela’ in retrograde, Linear and dotted circular border around, Rev: An ornate Tripatriate (Shrivatsa?) symbol with Sun and Moon on top, Linear and dotted circular border around. Ref: Bose and Nasir, Type D, HD 10.1, pg 90, Initially the legend was read as ‘Ukeria’ by BN Mukherjee, but recently Bose and Nasir have shown that this is a retrograde legend of ‘Harikela’. Very Fine, Rare with retrograde legend. |
