William IV, Silver (OMS) Proof, 11.61g, Half Anna, Calcutta Mint, A/I, Reeded edge. F. Prid 136. P. Stevens. 1.77. Uncirculated, Toned. Exceedingly Rare. Struck in Silver metal instead of Copper. Most fascinating and elusive part about this coin is that it comes with a Reeded Edge than the usual Plain edge. Probably to resemble the planchet of an One Rupee coin. As per F. Pridmore, "The 1835 Copper and Silver Proofs , with the beaded rim and grained edge, are apparently Calcutta Mint specimens struck from original dies and intended for submission to the Mint Committee". (F. Prid 136). Less than 4 pieces are believed to exist. |
