Tripura, Silver Tanka, 10.66g, Udaya Manikya with Queen Hira Mahadevi (SE 1489-1495 / 1567-1573 AD), Obv: Lion facing left with bead in front of lion, date below SE 1489, within a circular border of incline arches, Rev: Sri Sri Yutoda/ya Manikya/ Deva Sri Hira/ Maha Devyau within square with ornamental border. Udaya Manikya who was also known as Gopi Prasad or Gopinath Prasad was the 13th king of Tripura Kingdom. In the year 1567 the Chief of Army of the king was Gopi Prasad. He killed his son-in-law, the king Ananta Manikya and became the king of Tripura himself. He also changed the name of the capital from Rangamati to Udaipur. Here it is his inaugural coin which was issued along with his queen name Hira Maha Devi. Rhodes & Bose 132. Very Fine, Rare. |
