Pemba (Clove Island), British Influence, Silver Rupee, 11.52g, clove Counter struck on Queen Victoria 1840 (India). clove-shaped incuse countermark with Pemba in arabic. The host coin is toned VF-XF and the counterstamp is extremely clear. Very scarce type listed in the KM "Unusual World Coins" edition as the provenance of this issue is uncertain. Pemba includes a group of small islands off the coast of East Africa near Zanzibar and is often referred to as the Clove Islands. Pemba came under British control in 1890. Very Fine, Very Scarce.
