Roman Empire (Foreign), Marches Aurelius, last issue. Obv: IMP CAES MARCUS AVG GERM, laureate Bearded head right, Rev: PONT MAX TR POT COS II, senators standing facing each other and shaking hands. Letters on either side (S C) -senates conscencious , implying Rome to be governed by democracy . Note, Marchus Aurelis was the first Roman Emperor to declare Rome as a democracy in his last year of rule . As his vision, he struck coins in Aureus, Denarius and all coppers denominations with the reverse motif as given. |
